We wanted to let everyone know about an important change we made to the system over the weekend. You may recall how you used to have to enter “custom formats” to your receiving numbers if the phone number that appears on your website is different than your receiving number and you wanted the number to dynamically change to a tracking number… Today, we rolled out an update that introduces “website target numbers” for each of your tracking numbers. Target numbers are the phone numbers that our script should look for on your website and then swap to a tracking number.

Note that you do not have to go in and make any changes to your account as a result of this change. Any previous custom formats you had have been migrated to be website target numbers in your accounts.

Also note that this change only affects the situation where the phone number that is on your website (that you want us to swap to a tracking number) is DIFFERENT than your receiving number.

Where will you see this change?

1) The New Number Set Up Page: Whenever you buy new tracking numbers, you will now see a new number set up page that allows you to quickly adjust the settings for your new tracking numbers. In particular, you are able to program the website target number for the new numbers you are buying on this page. By default, the system will assume the target number is the same as your receiving number but you’ll easily be able to tell the system otherwise on the new number set up page:

This new page appears right after you purchase your tracking numbers.

Notice that you only have to enter a website target number for onsite sources (sources where you want dynamic number swapping to happen).  You can enter 1 target number on this page, but you can add additional targets on the new target number page (see below).

You’ll also notice that you can do useful things like update your caller greeting and notifications right on this page as well.

2) Manage Tracking Numbers Page: You will see a new column “Website Target Number” on the tracking numbers page.  You can adjust the website target number for any of your tracking numbers right from this page and this will tell the dynamic tracking code to look for that number on your website.  By default, we assume the target number we should look for on your website is the receiving number for your tracking number unless you tell us otherwise by entering a different target number.

3) Target Numbers Page: In the numbers dropdown, you will now see a target numbers option.  You can come here to set additional target numbers for your tracking numbers. The great thing is that you can quickly tell the code to look for multiple numbers on your website to swap by adding target numbers and assigning the correct tracking numbers to each of them. This greatly simplifies things for websites where you have multiple phone numbers listed that you want to swap to different tracking numbers (but all have the same receiving number).

Let us know how we can help as you get accustomed to the change.  This should make things a lot easier for you in the long run, but we understand you will have some questions as you get used to it.

Thank you.
